Our Story

Beauty, Purpose, and a Guitar Built for the Everyday Player

I’m incredibly proud to be a Dad. If all I’m remembered for is loving God, being a great husband, and being a great father, then my life has been a complete success. My wife and I have many children whom we adore, and they are the brightest lights in our lives. Years ago, we lost our son, and like any parent who walks through that kind of grief, I found myself searching for a way to carry it. I wanted something that could honor him and create beauty from sadness.

That search led me somewhere unexpected: guitars. I had played since I was a teenager in my parents’ garage in the 90s, but I had no idea how to build one. Still, I found a Telecaster kit online, and I became completely consumed by what it could become. Not just an instrument, but art, meaning, and purpose. I’ve always had an obsessive drive to understand things down to the smallest detail, so I dove headfirst into everything: pickups, wiring, finishes, and the little pieces of craftsmanship most people never see but every player can feel.

With a background in the creative space, I blended graphic design into this new passion and built a tribute guitar covered in blue hydrangeas in honor of our son. I hand-painted faux binding, left the mahogany glowing underneath, and poured everything I had into it. That guitar is far from perfect, but it remains my favorite one I’ve ever made. It sits in my office today, every flaw still visible. I’ll never go back and fix the mistakes, because those imperfections are part of the story. They’re my beauty marks and my history.

From that first tribute guitar, I was absolutely hooked. I kept learning, improving, and refining the craft. What started as a personal project quickly grew into something larger as friends and family began sharing my work. Before I knew it, I was building one-off guitars for charities, for local businesses, and for meaningful causes. Then one day, someone in the music industry asked if I could design and build special guitars for a few famous classic rock guitarists. I was floored by the opportunity, and it opened my eyes to what might be possible.

Somewhere along the way, I woke up with a dream that wouldn’t leave me alone: what if boutique-quality guitars didn’t have to be out of reach? Growing up, I always admired the stunning instruments in magazines and catalogs, but like many people who prioritize family, I never felt the need to take on the expense of most high-end guitars. I wanted to build something different. Guitars with professional features, real craftsmanship, and undeniable beauty, but at a price that didn’t break the budget.

That vision became Kardinal Guitars, and the KG1 is the first step. Our small-batch, pre-purchase model allows us to stay lean, focused, and intentional. Each guitar is built for a specific customer, hand assembled, double quality checked, and finished with care. No mass production, no shortcuts, just a relentless pursuit of excellence.

The name Kardinal carries deep meaning as well. For many, seeing a cardinal is a comforting reminder that love endures, and that those we’ve lost are still with us in some way. Like the bird, we’re relentless in our drive for quality and deeply committed to our players. The hard “K” is our reminder to stay sharp, intentional, and uncompromising.

Kardinal is more than a guitar brand. It’s a story of family, of grief turned into beauty, of obsession channeled into craftsmanship, and of building something meaningful for players who have always dreamed of owning a truly special instrument.

All we need now is the player.
